Raise Latina Voice and help to Empower
We are oral historians. Since our inception, Latina Voice has gathered the stories of Latina women with intersecting identities to illuminate the omission of their voice in professional and academic spheres as well in communities. Our vision is to create a movement of social change through research, education and community supports to nurture, empower, and grow the potential of all women from all backgrounds and identities. Read Yesenia's story below to learn more on the impact of Latina Voice.
"I had an America dream that turned out to be a delusion. With a knock on my door my mother was taken from me and deported back to Mexico. I was nine. Fourteen years later, my family is still separated. The trauma of being separated from my mother left me confused, depressed, anxious, and helpless. Latina Voice helped me with a safe place to tell my story, they let me know I was not alone, and reminded me on the importance of fighting for family. Today, I am a student at California State University researching the impacts of racism and discrimination on mental health. I’m also the creator of "Proud Chicana" jewelry, designing jewelry inspired by mother raising awareness on immigration and have become an advocate for undocumented people and immigration reform. I learned to embrace my experiences, my hurt, my pain into power and resilience in fighting for my American dream; and through it all, I feel better knowing Latina Voice is always there if I need them".
